I think poetry is more than just a string of fancy words. It isn’t only a series of lines that follow a specific rhyme scheme or a meter. It isn’t all about using unintelligible words, or figures of speech, or intangible metaphors. I think poetry is about expression. It’s about emotion. It is about saying what cannot be said and showing what cannot be shown in any ordinary way. I don’t think pouring out an entire dictionary into a set of sentences makes it a good poem.I think poetry is making a statement. It is about letting out your innermost feelings.
Anything that is truly genuine and pure can be poetry. It is personal. It cannot be conceived just for the sake of impressing your audience. Poetry cannot be general. I think there cannot be a poem without a receptor in mind. It is personalized, customized, it has to be unique.
Most people would say writing pretty lines about pretty things and fantasizing everything is poetry. I say not. Poetry is curation. Its about that struggle to preserve what cannot be touched or seen or heard but can only be felt. Poetry is not mere ink on paper… It is what passed through the ink, through the pen, through the hands, all the way from your heart. Poetry is being… It is existing… It is in the whistle of the wind, and the gurgle of the stream, the ticking of a clock and the tinkling of a wind-chime. Anything that is trying to say something. It is the sigh, the tear, the smile, the frown, anything and everything that is heartfelt…
That, to me, is poetry…
